First Presbyterian Church

First Presbyterian Church in downtown Macon is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America, established in 1826. Two Sunday worship services bring together Bible preaching, congregational singing led by choir and musicians, prayer and historic confessions of faith. Sunday school serves children, students and adults between services. Nursery care, children's Bible lessons, middle- and high-school gatherings, young-adult groups and ministries for men, women and senior adults offer ways to take part. School-year Wednesday meals and Bible studies, GriefShare and local service projects extend church life beyond Sunday.

Questions

What happens on Sunday morning?

Two identical worship services meet in the Sanctuary at 9:00 and 11:15 AM. Worship includes Scripture, Bible preaching, choir-led congregational singing, prayer and historic confessions. Sunday school begins at 10:10 AM, with adult classes ending at 11:00 and children's classes at 11:10. Visitors do not need to be members.

What should I wear?

Clothing ranges from casual attire to business dress. Either is welcome.

Where can I park and enter?

Parking is available in the First Street lot, the Mulberry Street lot beside The Grand and on nearby streets. The Sanctuary is in the worship building, not the separate church office.

Is there an accessible entrance?

Yes. The First Street entrance provides elevators, automatic doors and a wheelchair lift. Ask the welcome volunteers for help finding the entrance or your classroom.

How does care for younger children work?

Sunday nursery care serves infants through age three from 8:45 AM to 12:45 PM, with a private nursing room also available. Children in 4K through second grade may leave worship for a Bible lesson; third graders and older are encouraged to remain with their families. Volunteers can help with check-in. Children should be collected by an authorized adult, not a sibling.

What can I join during the week?

From September through April, Wednesday dinner starts at 5:15 PM, children and junior-high activities at 6:00 PM, and most adult studies at 6:15 PM. Dinner is paid and requires registration by Tuesday noon. Senior-high youth meet on Sunday evenings during the school year. Young adults, men and women have additional small groups and studies. GriefShare offers a twelve-week fall support group; confirm the current registration and meeting details. Alongside Care supports women through a crisis but is not professional counseling, and the church can offer independent counseling referrals.

Can I watch worship online?

Yes. Worship can be watched through the church's livestream page, with previous sermons also available online.
